How much does it cost to travel Vietnam?

Your trip to Vietnam can easily become your best and also the cheapest vacation. As prices of accommodation, food and services are still very low, Vietnam is a great place for a low budget vacation.

Believe it or not, you can live on approximately 12 dollars a day and still sleep in a clean bed and eat healthy food. On the other hand, such low budget is a bit extreme and I do recommend to always count in extra expenses. During my last trip to Vietnam, I have written down every single expense I had as I was curious how much will the entire trip cost. Let’s go through some of the most common expenses:

Accomodation

Night in a hostel: 80,000 – 150,000 VND / 3.5 – 6.5 USD

Night in a budget but clean hotel: 150,000 – 350,000 VND / 6.5 – 15 USD

Food

Pho (Noodle soup so big you will be full): 30.000 VND / 1,3 USD

Banh Mi (Sandwich): 20.000 VND / 1 USD

Chicken Rice – 40.000 VND / 2 USD

Great burger with fries and coke: 150.000 VND / 6,5 USD

Fast Food Burger Meal – 80.000 / 3.5 USD

Coffee – 20.000 VND / 1 USD

Gas

Full gas tank of Honda Win (enough to ride 300 kilometers or 185 miles): 140.000 / 6 USD

Other

Sim card with data plan for entire month: 170.000 VND / 7.5 USD

Oil change: 70.000 VND – 120.000 VND / 3 – 5 USD

Train ticket from Hue to Da Nang (100 kilometers or 60 miles) – 60.000 vnd / 3 USD

All in all, I recommend to budget with at least $25 per person for every day in Vietnam. This amount should cover all your basic needs and even most of the unexpected expenses.
